Mevagissey lies on the South side of Cornwall, in an area often called the Cornish Riviera. The history of the village goes back to the missionaries after whom it is evidently named, St Meva and St Issey.

There are many places of interest around Cornwall, and Mevagissey makes an excellent place to start your exploration of those places. The Lost Gardens of Heligan can be reached on foot by following the footpath that leaves Mevagissey from behind the Activity Centre on Valley Road. The Eden Project is a few miles away, near St Austell. The village of Charlestown, close to St Austell, often hosts visiting tall ships, and, like Mevagissey, is an historic port itself. Fishing ports, historical places, visitor centres with facilities for children, water sport centres, pleasant walks, and pretty much everything a visitor could want are in abundance in this land of myth and magic, the ancient Celtic country of Cornwall, traditionally the home of Uther Pendragon, and his son Arthur, of Round Table fame.
